The Book

The last chance to rewrite the future

By the 2030s, almost all hope of saving Earth — and the human race — had vanished. Billionaires stopped investing in the climate and sent their money into space instead, aiming to relocate civilization rather than fight to stay.

Aurelio Medici — Lio to those who knew him well — believes humanity can survive only if it unites: not through declarations and symbols, but through equal laws for all, a common moral code and a single goal. He has something no one else has. Bitrow, an artificial intelligence that quietly carried him from an unemployed failure to the richest and most powerful man in the world. Without publicity. Without a trace. Without witnesses.

Now Lio must face the ugliest human instincts — greed, selfishness and the insatiable lust for power — to build a world where healthcare, electricity, food and a home are a given, even for the poorest. But would he succeed? That depended on too many people.

Have Your Say

If you had 50 years, what would you change first?

The novel is a reminder that many of the rules we take for granted were made by people like us — and can be changed by people like us. Tell the author what you think: about the book, about Lio and Nella, or about the world you want to live in.

Christo Panoff

Until the spring of 2023, I had what many people would call a “normal” life. Everything seemed to be moving forward — until the day my world turned upside down. My mother suffered a severe stroke, and in just one day, the woman who had always been there for me became someone who needed help with even the most basic tasks.

Like many others in my position, I was faced with an obvious choice: hire professional help or place her in a nursing home. That’s what most people do when their elderly parents become seriously ill, right? It makes sense. They get to maintain their lifestyles while telling themselves they’ve done what’s best for their parents. But is that really the case? Over time, I came to understand just how important mental health is to a person’s physical well-being. People in serious condition need more than medical care. They need the will to keep fighting, the feeling that their lives still matter. They need love and attention.

So I made a decision. I left my old life behind and became my mother’s caregiver, physical therapist, psychologist, and companion in life. I gave up my business, my dreams, my social life, and the chance to start a family of my own. My mother became my everything. I faced a great deal of criticism and misunderstanding. The truth is, at first, I didn’t fully understand my own actions either. I simply couldn’t see another choice I could live with in good conscience.

Today, I can say with complete confidence that it was the best decision I have ever made. I began to value my health more, and that gave me the strength to quit smoking. I started exercising every day and paying more attention to the quality of the food I ate. But the most important change was something else — for the first time, I had the time and opportunity to stop and look beyond my own world.

I realized that the things that truly matter in life cannot be bought with money. I began to see how distorted our value system has become and how often we chase things that ultimately mean very little. I realized that before my mother’s stroke, I, too, had been following the wrong path.

That was when I decided to write 50 Years Until the End.

This book is my way of sharing true stories from my own life and questioning some of the beliefs we take for granted. It is my way of presenting the arguments for why we may be the last generation to live what we consider a normal life. But it is also a way to show that, despite everything, we can build a much better world — a world in which humanity still has a chance, if we can put aside our thirst for money, power, and personal gain.

Am I right? Only time will tell.
